Brazilians in Punta del Este: guide, trends and recommendations from a tourism reference

Essential guide to understand why Brazilians choose Punta del Este: trends, habits and recommendations from a tourism reference.

Información para Brasileros en Punta del Este

Jéssica, a Brazilian from São Paulo and creator of “Punta para Brasileños”, has worked in digital marketing for more than seven years and is now Marketing Manager at a financial broker in Latin America. At 25, a trip through South America made her fall in love with Punta del Este. She came back, learned Spanish and resumed her career in the city, where in 2026 she will complete ten years of residence.

Can you introduce yourself? Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Jéssica, a Brazilian from São Paulo, I’m 35 and I’m Marketing Manager at a financial broker that operates across Latin America. I’ve worked in digital marketing for more than seven years.
My background is in Radio and Television: I worked in radio, TV and production companies before moving into marketing. At 25 I took a trip through South America that changed my life. I started in Uruguay, volunteered at hostels in Uruguay and Argentina, and traveled through Bolivia and Chile.
During that trip I fell in love with Punta del Este. I came back, lived for two years in a hostel —where I learned Spanish— and then resumed my career once settled in Punta. In 2026 I will have been living here for ten years.

How long ago did you arrive in Punta, and why did you come?
I arrived at 25 during that trip through South America and came back because I loved the city: its calm, the safety and life by the sea. Over time I made friends, built connections and ended up staying. Today Punta is my home.

After so many years, you became a reference among Brazilians. What attracts Brazilian visitors to Punta del Este?
My Instagram page was born naturally: I like videos, editing, and I have always worked in digital marketing. I started by answering questions and detected a great demand for information.
Brazilians’ interest in Punta combines several factors:

  • The beauty and order of the city.

  • Safety, much higher than in Brazil.

  • An attractive lifestyle, with gastronomy, cafés, hotels and “fancy” experiences.

  • The search for quality of life.

  • The growth of weddings and events.

  • Cultural curiosity, including the marijuana legislation.

My page only amplified a trend that was already growing: Brazilians’ interest in Uruguay is not slowing down.

  • Península: walking, seeing the port, the waterfront and the bustle.

“Punta del Este is beautiful and has enormous growth potential. Brazilians’ interest will keep increasing, both for tourism and for residence.
The city needs to evolve, modernize services and improve customer service without losing the Uruguayan style that we all value. If it stays well-kept, safe and open to new ideas, its future will be even more promising.”

Places to stay beyond the Península

Depending on the traveler’s profile, you can choose among these options:

  • Without a car: the Península is the most practical.

  • With a car: more options open up: Punta Ballena (nature), La Barra (nightlife), Montoya/Manantiales and José Ignacio (luxury).

Key aspects I always explain:

  • Uber works, but it can fail at peak demand times.

  • Each area offers a different style: tranquility, family or party. The important thing is to align expectations.

What do your services consist of?

I work in four specific areas:

  1. Digital guide to Punta del Este
Updated every year, designed for the way Brazilians travel. I am now expanding to guides for all of Uruguay.

  2. Personalized consulting
I answer questions about transportation, accommodation, prices and itineraries, and plan trips according to each profile.

  3. Referral of local partners
I recommend trustworthy businesses and services, many with Portuguese-language service and benefits for those who arrive through my project.

  4. Collaborations and content for local businesses
I create advertising content tailored to the interests of the Brazilian audience, which helps businesses that want to connect with that market.

Brazilians value clear recommendations, good service, safety and special experiences, which is why my guide and consulting services are in such high demand.

Disclosure: I have partnerships with restaurants, but I remain loyal to my favorite places —the ones I choose because I truly love them—.

What should those planning to come to Punta del Este keep in mind?
The first point is prices. I always show real values to avoid surprises; far from scaring people off, this improves the experience and the community keeps growing.
I also highlight safety: Punta —like much of Uruguay— is very safe, something Brazilians notice right away.
I also explain cultural and practical aspects:

  • Tipping is part of the service,

  • There are discounts for tourists,

  • Which currency to use and how cards work,

  • How to handle exchange.

The weather is another key factor:

  • Summer for those who want heat,

  • Winter for those who prefer tranquility,

  • Spring and autumn for mild temperatures.

All of this is detailed in my guide, because these are questions I receive every day.
