A few minutes from Route 10, on Camino La Aguada, there is a six-hectare property where the native forest keeps its original shape and the buildings fit between the trees instead of clearing them. This is home to Portal Bosque, a non-profit family club that combines nature, technology and culture in a program ranging from robotics to ceramics, from yoga to parkour.

What you can do there

The offering is organized around two audiences who share the same property: children and adults. Scattered among the trees are various wooden pavilions, each designed for a type of activity: carpentry, ceramics, martial arts, cooking, yoga and functional training, plus a Fab Lab digital fabrication facility and “La Aldea”, which brings together a rehearsal room and an audiovisual studio for music, podcasts and content production. For the youngest, the offering adds robotics and programming, theater, music and outdoor activities such as family parkour or a soccer school. For adults, the program leans toward well-being and creativity: different lines of yoga, fusion pilates, functional training, ceramics, creative writing and cycles of body and group work. During the winter season, Portal Bosque is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00. On Saturdays at 9:00 the “Portal Experience” opens, designed especially for those visiting for the first time.

Schools, residencies and training

Beyond its weekly program, Portal Bosque works with educational institutions through Learning by Creating, a program of more than twenty workshops designed so that schools in the area can bring their students to experience content in a natural setting, outside the traditional classroom. The property also hosts Artistic Training Experiences — intensive multi-day gatherings with leading figures from different disciplines — and Creative Residencies, where artists settle in to work on a project and share the result with the community at the end. Out of those gatherings came the Portal Sessions, audiovisual recordings of musical collaborations that emerged in the forest.

At night, with live music

Portal Bosque also comes alive at night. La Aldea’s rehearsal room and audiovisual studio are the base of its own agenda of musical, cultural and artistic events, including recurring series such as the Portal Jam, gatherings with guest musicians and the audiovisual productions later shared as Portal Sessions. The fifth edition of the series, recorded among the trees with Dillom and Santiago Motorizado reinterpreting songs from their repertoire, is the one that circulated most outside Uruguay.

Tierra, the food offering

On the same property, between a pine forest and a wetland, is Tierra, the restaurant that chef Fernando Trocca opened at Portal Bosque. The cooking is minimal-intervention: it prioritizes local, seasonal produce, with a short menu that changes with the calendar. Dishes that have appeared on the menu include a cured beef tenderloin tartare with pay potatoes and capers, braised lamb with spices, confit sole pil pil style with Uruguayan caviar and a corvina a la puttanesca; for dessert, a vanilla parfait with candied apricots and almonds. It works by reservation only — book two or three days ahead in high season — and is open Wednesday to Saturday from 19:30 to 23:30.

How to join

Access to the facilities and the full program is through a membership; the site lists the current rates and terms. For direct inquiries, Portal Bosque responds by email and by WhatsApp, and shares its schedule and daily activity on its Instagram. Address: Camino La Aguada, La Barra, Maldonado.
