El Quijote Chacras: Living in a Nature Reserve Minutes from La Barra

Located between La Barra and San Carlos, El Quijote Chacras – Reserva Natural is one of the most established private neighborhoods in the Punta del Este area. Developed on 365 hectares, it combines nature, privacy and top-level services in a setting designed for year-round living and leisure.

Of the total area, 165 hectares are a private nature reserve. This protected space is one of the project’s main differentiators.

A Development with More Than Two Decades of History

Founded in 2000, El Quijote was one of the pioneering developments in the residential chacra segment of the department of Maldonado. The first homes began to be built in 2005.

Today the neighborhood has 242 lots. More than 150 houses have already been built and around 55 families live there year-round. Lots are still available for those looking to build a home in the community.

Architecture Integrated into the Landscape

The internal regulations set a minimum living area of 140 square meters per home. In addition, each architectural project must be approved by the Architecture Committee.

This process keeps a consistent visual identity and ensures the buildings blend properly with the natural surroundings.

Services and Amenities for the Whole Family

The neighborhood’s infrastructure was designed to provide comfort all year round.

Main services include:

  • Two access points with security control.
  • Club house.
  • Tennis courts.
  • Padel courts.
  • Gym.
  • Zoned pool.
  • Organic vegetable garden for residents.

The garden yields a variety of seasonal produce and reinforces the community’s sustainable spirit.

Horseback Riding and Private Nature Reserve

One of El Quijote’s great attractions is its private nature reserve. The area offers spaces for recreational activities and outdoor gatherings.

The development also has a stable housing roughly 60 horses belonging to owners and to the co-ownership. Residents can enjoy daily horseback rides within the grounds.

The reserve also has fire-pit areas and rest areas. New trails for walking and recreational routes will be added soon.

Guest Houses and New Projects

The neighborhood has guest houses for owners’ relatives and visitors.

Three new units are currently under development. A new club house aimed exclusively at adults is also planned to open.

Infrastructure and Service Quality

In terms of infrastructure, El Quijote has its own water network. The system includes a reverse-osmosis treatment plant.

Thanks to this technology, water can be drunk straight from the tap. Supply of up to 60 cubic meters per month is included in the common expenses.

During the summer season, the club house restaurant is open every day. In winter, it opens on weekends. The neighborhood also organizes recreational activities and a kids’ summer camp.

Common Expenses

Common expenses are currently between USD 580 and USD 600 per month.
Temporarily, there is an extraordinary fee of about USD 110 earmarked for an improvement and investment plan. While those works are carried out, the total cost is around USD 700 per month.

Strategic Location between La Barra and San Carlos

Location is another of the aspects residents value most.

El Quijote is about ten minutes from La Barra. Punta del Este is roughly twenty to thirty minutes away, depending on the time of year and traffic conditions.

Proximity to schools, services and shops makes daily life easier. For that reason, the neighborhood appeals to both young families and couples looking to settle permanently.

An Established Community in Maldonado

With more than two decades of development, a large nature reserve and a stable community, El Quijote has positioned itself as one of the most complete residential offerings in Maldonado.

Its combination of nature, infrastructure and quality of life continues to attract those looking for a calm, safe setting connected to the region’s main points of interest.
